Nicholas Cabasilas

The practice of hesicasmo still stays in Monte Athos and other orthodox monasteries. In Monte Athos it received a decisive impulse from Gregorio Palams in century XII and soon with Filoteo Kokkinos and Nicholas Cabasilas already, and thus in later centuries by means of writings of mystics and theologians compiled in the text corpus called Filocalia. Hesiquiasmo had great diffusion in the monasteries of Constantinople (century XI), and those of the Athos mount (century XIV), the Slavic monks (century XVIII, Russia); its espiritualidad had great influence in the orthodox theology, impregnating it to the present time with the mystic of the heart? The word hesiqua in Greek is translated like rest or peace, tranquillity state. Owns who it is balance, lives peacefully and simultaneously, she shuts up and she keeps silence. It remembers the attitude that Plato it affirms corresponds to the authentic philosopher: that one stays calm and takes care than it belongs to him. And also one adjusts to the words of Libro of the Proverbs: the sensible man knows to be silent; or in the style of solitaire of that Baruq prophet says: It is good for waiting for in silence the salvation of the Gentleman? In the century I SAW, S.Juan Clmaco, abbot of the monastery of the Sina and author of the Scale of the Paradise, united hesiqua and the Memory of Jesus. Hesiqua is the perpetual adoration in the presence of God: That the memory of Jesus one to your breathing and soon you will realize utility of hesiqua.

The ideal oration is the one that eliminates the raciocinios and it becomes a single word. Looking for the ways to develop the spiritual heart, hesicastas the oration of Jesus invented a called method (or the plegaria to Jesus). Their formulas could be different: from Mr., Jesus Christ, Son of God, I ten mercy by a sinful one like until the simplest and perfect version: simply a call-request to Jesus-Love asking to him to enter my spiritual heart with the humble repetition of Its name: Jesus! Jesus! The three fundamental characteristics of hesiquiasmo are: the solitude, like means to flee from the world; silence, to obtain the revelation of the future and the ultratarreno world; and the calm, to secure the control of the thoughts, the absence of preoccupations and the sobriety.
